Usually I don't like being dragged into debates about racism and political correctness (minus the BNP slagging off), but news that the MET was branded racist because the "ethnic minority" quota wasn't achieved just boggles my mind.
Police should be recruited based on skill, not race. That's not just the police either. All company's should do this, and most do. The same goes for sexism. Why should a man get paid more than a woman for the exact same job? He shouldn't.
Labour Deputy Leader, Harriet Harman, has spoke out saying that one of the top two posts within the Labour Government should always be held by a woman. No, no it shouldn't. That's not equality. Equality is treating everyone the same. This is clearly favouring women more. I do not care if both posts were held by women. I don't care if both were held by men. I do care if these posts are filled by hitting targets, not by laurels.
This is the same woman who has written the Equality Bill. So let's see what the main points in this bill are. Oh, women will find it easier to demand equal pay and employers will be given a legal right to discriminate in favour of female candidates.
Now how is that equality? Yes, women may be further behind in jobs and pay but surely the way to fix this is not to make it legal to discriminate men. Equality should be created by taking away the discriminations, not to make men just as discriminated as women.
Equality? Utter bollocks.
